A Word to Cat Owners Who Wish to Adopt a Greyhound…

Families who own cats, and wish to adopt greyhounds, must understand that there are never any guarantees regarding the cat's future safety, regardless of how disinterested the greyhound seems to be. We cannot, and will not, promise that the greyhound will never chase or injure the cat. We do our best to determine the greyhound's level of interest, but several thousand years of genetic programming is hard to overcome, and you must understand that something as small as a bird flying by the window or a squirrel romping in your yard could be a trigger. The greyhound should always be supervised when interacting with small animals and should never be left alone or unsupervised with small animals. Taking 30 seconds to put kitty in a closed bedroom or crating your greyhound before leaving the room will help insure a safe, harmonious environment for everyone.

A word to families WITHOUT fences who wish to adopt a Greyhound…

When adopting a Greyhound from Forever Home, fencing is NOT mandatory, HOWEVER, potential adopters must thoroughly understand that in inclement weather, you will need to be willing and able to stay outside with your Greyhound LONG ENOUGH for the dog to do his/her business . You MUST walk the dog, as simply standing there will not stimulate the dog. Greyhounds are NOT afraid of snow, and they WILL do their business but you have to walk with them and be patient and stay outside with them long enough for them to evacuate their bowels. This can take anywhere from two (2) to thirty (30) minutes. It takes some time to establish a routine so patience is essential. Once the routine is established, things will go more quickly. If fencing your yard in NOT an option please consider purchasing a small kennel from AGWAY or FARM & TRACTOR or 2 exercise pens from your local pet supply store and set them up in your yard so you can turn your Greyhound out without his leash. Greyhounds will complete their bathroom needs much more rapidly off leash inside the kennel or X-pen.


A Word To Potential Adopters Regarding Our Adoption Events:

Because not every Available Greyhound can be at Every adoption event, if you are interested is meeting a specific dog or dogs, please call Paula ( 518 261-7025 ) to confirm that dogs attendance at the event you plan on attending. We will do our best to accomodate you, or perhaps if that isn't possible we can arrange a private visit for you at the foster residence.

Please Note: Forever Home does NOT hold any specific dog unless a $100.00 NON REFUNDABLE deposit via Paypal accompanies the application. If client fails to adopt that SPECIFIC dog client forfeits the deposit . In cases of multiple clients interested in the same dog placement is at the descretion of FOREVER HOME and we will return the deposit to applicant who is NOT able to adopt that specific dog. Deposit may be submitted via PAYPAL.

Once your application has been received and reviewed you will be contacted by one of our officers to arrange a Home Visit. We request that ALL family members be available at this time. We will discuss all aspects of the adoption process with your family and also educate you as to what may be expected once your new Greyhound comes home.





Beginning in May 2007 Forever Home will begin Micro-Chipping all of our available Greyhounds. We feel it is an important and valuable tool to insure their safety. We will also be offering low cost chipping to all of our clients who currently own Forever Home Greyhounds. The Micro Chipping will be by appointment or at specified adoption events. (call Paula for details)

The cost to our current adoptive clients will be a very reasonable $10.00 per Greyhound which is less than 1/2 what your Vet is able to offer it for. Please call Paula at 518-261-7025 for info and arrangements.
